Description: The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is short, long body with erected ears. They are a short legged breed with a wide flat skull and a fox-like head. They have dark eyes and black nose.What makes them look unique is that they don’t have tail like other breeds. Their coat is straight, soft and fair in length and water resistant with a dense undercoat.
Temperament: This Breed is a very intelligent, obedient, devoted and an obedient dog. Also, they are extremely active, alert and will bark to alarm their owner when something goes wrong that makes them an effective watchdog. These dogs could be a good family pet and a companion too. As early as possible, they should be trained of proper socialization to avoid over protective behavior in their adult stage. Most of them are outgoing dogs that makes them to be restless and on the go always compared to Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Pembrokes are herding dogs and could herd people as well as other animals, through nipping at the heels, which is important to be trained for proper behavior. Owners need not to tolerate them, as this dog can be independent and powerful. However, he is also courteous and keen to please, that would make them pass through the trainings.
Activity: The Pembroke could be an indoor dog which also require moderate amount of exercise, and will enjoy playing games and joining in family activities. And a daily walk would also do good for them.
Grooming: Their water-resistant soft coat is easy to groom. They need to be brushed daily most especially during those times that they are shedding heavily. Heavy shedding occurs on a seasonal basis.
Health Problems: Life span of Pembrokes is around 12-14 years and some health problems to look out for with this breed are: PRA, vWD, spinal problems, lens luxation, retinal problems, and HD. Excessive jumping, lack of support when handled, or excessive weight gain could lead to the risk of spinal problems.
