Jack Russell Terrier

Description: The Jack Russell Terrier has sturdy and compact body. The height is proportional to the length, creating a balanced and solid countenance. The head has a defined stop and a slightly short muzzle. The nose is black, and the almond-shaped eyes are dark-colored. The ears are shaped like an inverted triangular as it falls forward, facing the front. They are set high on the head, and the Jack Russell Terrier can stand them up or, as is usually the case, let it hang forward. The jaws are powerful and form a level or scissors bite.

The body is also muscular, with a strong neck, sloping shoulders, and a fine back. The forelegs are strong and straight, while the hind legs has a good stipulation and a good bend. The feet are small, round, and catlike. The chest is shallow and the back is strong and straight. The tail is set high and is carried gaily.

There are two types of Jack Russell Terrier: the English type, and the Irish type called Jack Russell Shorty which is distinguished by is shorter legs.

Dynamics: The Jack Russell Terrier is a playful and loving dog. It is obedient, yet also spirited and mischievous. It enjoys games and playing with toys. It has a friendly temperament and kind and patient to children. This is an intelligent breed. It is a little difficult to train and requires a firm and consistent training. Aggressiveness can be seen if the Jack Russell Terrier does not have the proper training and socialization.

Socialization for the Jack Russell Terrier is important to moderate its aggressive trait. This breed also has a strong hunting instinct and should be watched when around other small animals. The Jack Russell Terrier likes to explore and run around. It also likes to bark and dig. The Jack Russell Terrier can also climb and jump over fences. This breed can become destructive when ignored.

Activities: The Jack Russell Terrier has a lot of stored energy within. It has to be sufficiently exercised, else it will become destructive and have behavioral problems. Play sessions and games are also important for this breed. The Jack Russell Terrier’s talents include hunting, tracking, agility, and performing tricks.

Grooming: The Jack Russell Terrier’s coat is easy to groom because it is short and smooth. Combing and brushing it regularly will do. Bathe only when necessary.

Other Info: The Jack Russell Terrier has a life expectancy of 15 years or more. It is prone to the dislocation of kneecaps, eye diseases, deafness, and Legg Perthes (disease of the hip joints). Other than these, no major health issues are noted. This breed can live in the city or in an apartment as long as it is sufficiently exercised and taken outdoors from time to time.

German Pinscher

Description: German Pinschers are a medium in size breed, muscular built and very strong. Their coat is short,their body is square in shape and regular in structure. Size is proportioned and ideal in height. Their head and neck is long,with a powerful expression. Ears are set high especially when they are alert. Their eyes are oval shaped, dark in color and regular in size. Muzzle is identical when comes to the length with a muscular cheeks, nose are dark colored and black lips, strong jaws and scissors bite. Their tail is regularly set high and coat is short but smooth and shiny. This breed has variety of colors.

Temperament: They are an Intelligent, brave dog with great senses thus making them a good guard dog that could very well protect their family. Easy to train as long as you have enough patience and follow right training techniques. They are a breed that is always full of energy and active but they do not bark a lot loke any other guard dogs do to alert their family. A very lively dog, but children around them must treat them like they are their boss and not to let them be dominated by German Pinschers. They must undergo obedience training to let them understand and teach them good behaviors and how to honor their master. They too could get along with other pets but only indoors since they could chase other pets when outdoors. They needed to be trained firmly and seriously to hinder tham from being harsh and develop good habits and rapor to the people around them especially with his family members.

Activity: They are required to have an ample amount of exercise and long brisk walk daily.

Health: No known diseases for them. They are a healthy breed. Their life span is from 12-14 years.

Grooming: They do not require heavy grooming because naturally, they have a short,smooth and shiny hair. Brushing them on an occasional basis would be fine to prevent dead hair. They are an average shedder.

German Hunt Terrier

Description: This breed has a resemblance of a Doberman. They also come in black color with a brown reddish mark on their muzzle. Their coat is stiff but also smooth and soft. Their head is lengthened and wide, circular cheeks and has strong jaws. Ears are regular in size that also matched their head, set high. Its eyes are dark in color and deep set, body is firm, strong and muscular, because they are born a hunter type of terrier. Their tail is also docked and carried high especially when they are alert.

Temperament: This kind of breed is a genius easy to train, but they could also at times be bad-tempered. A Very determined with work since they are born a hunter. And always full of energy and ready for work. A very friendly dog but could be suspicious with strangers and ready to protect their homes from those strangers that would try to invade their home. Also, they are a fearless and observant guard dog. They could become stubborn and difficult to handle when they lack exercise and or be stagnant and does nothing.

Activity: They are required to have daily walk and exercise. Since they are born hunter, they are used to working and do hunting jobs that is why they need a lot of exercise so they would not have any behavioral problem.

Health: They have no known health issues because they are healthy breed. Their life span is about 10-15 years.

Grooming: They don’t require heavy grooming. And since they have short hair, they only need to be brushed to eliminate dead hair and to maintain its softness and shine.

Fox Terrier

Wire Fox TerrierDescription: There are two varieties of the Fox Terrier: the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Wire Fox Terrier. The only difference between the two varieties is the type of coat. The Smooth Fox Terrier has a smooth and flat, whereas the Wire Fox Terrier has a dense wiry one.

The body of the Fox Terrier is squarely proportional, and of medium size, The head is triangular, with the ears set high.

Dynamics: The Fox Terrier is an energetic and playful dog. It is excellent with children and it is affectionate with the family. It can be jealous at times when it is not given attention. It is brave and impulsive, and can be very aggressive. It may pick a fight with other dog breeds, no matter the size. It also does not trust other household pets and animals. Proper socialization and training is needed for this breed to get along with other household pets, but it still needs to be watched when around them.

The Fox Terrier likes to bark and make good watchdogs. It can be rowdy and boisterous with all the barking at times. Behavioral problems may occur when it is not properly trained and socialized.

Other Info: The Fox Terrier has a life expectancy of at least 15 years. Health issues include epilepsy, deafness, post nasal drip, lens luxation, distichiasis, cataracts, Legg-Perthes, shoulder dislocation, and skin problems. The Fox Terrier can live in an apartment as long as it is given a proper amount of exercise or play sessions.

Dutch Smoushond

Dutch SmoushondDescription: The Dutch Smoushond is a medium-sized dog with double coat of rugged wiry hair. It has small dark eyes, and black nose and lips. Long hair forms a beard, mustache, and eyebrows on its face. The ears are set high and triangular in shape. The muzzle is long and the jaws form an even yet slightly scissors bite.

The body of the Dutch Smoushond is proportional and well-balanced. Its legs are firm, straight, and well-muscled, with small round and catlike feet. The back of the legs are only thinly covered with hair.

Dynamics: The Dutch Smoushond is a charming dog with a friendly disposition. It can be reserved with strangers but it becomes very cheerful and loving with his family and friends. It is skillful and intelligent, and obedient to its owner. It is very eager to please and sensitive. Training the Dutch Smoushond has to be consistent but not harsh. This breed gets along very well with children and other household pets.
