Pekingese

AKA: Peke, Peking Palasthund, Lion Dog, Pelchie Dog, Foo (or Fu) DogPekingese
Description: Pekingese breed is a flat faced dog. The body is compact and very short. They are considered small breed. They have a double coat, a head turner mane that is feathering on its ears, through their tail and legs. Their head is bigger when compared to their body. Their muzzle is wide and flat and its thick ones under their eyes. Their teeth also meet in a under bite and with their jaw bone that is as well wide. Eyes are round, expressive with a heart shaped ears settled on top of head laying flat. That is adding a rectangular look of their face. Their tail is set high especially when they are alert. Their coat comes in a variety of colors.

Temperament: The Pekingese is a very smart breed with dignity. Also very loving and confident dog. They are a calm and quiet dog. They are also very sociable to people around them and with other animals too. therefore its always easy to train them with socialization and good manners. They are a very brave dog too and doesn’t depend with anyone on their family. They are a perfect human companion too. Easy to be with and a jolly playful dog.They could also be a good watch dog as long as they are being handled very well by their owner.

Activity: They are required to have daily walk and jog as long as they heel beside their owner to let them understand that leader should lead the way. Play is also another form of exercise that will help them gain their energy and to be more healthy.

Health: They are prone to colds, as well as dislocated kneecaps, trichaiasis and some breathing difficulties. Their life span is from about 10-15 years.

Grooming: Daily brushing is required for them to avoid tangles and broken coat. Bathe only when necessary. Dry shampoo is also needed regularly. They are an average shedder breed.

Parson Russell Terrier

AKA: Jack Russell TerrierParson
Description: Parson Russell is a well built breed and well proportioned body. They have dark eyes that is almond shaped. Ears are in V-shaped that is folded forward Have a strong, rectangular muzzle. They are narrow chested dog and teeth meet in scissors bite. Tail is erected and docked. They have a cat like feet, wirehaired but smooth and soft to touch.

Temperament: The parson breed is a loving very lively dog. They are an active dog always full of energy. They get along well with children. As long as they are being handled well by their owner. They are bred for hunting therefore it is hard for them to be with small pets. A socialization training would be required for them to be more socialized as they are smart enough to follow instructions and easy to please. Most of them in this breed do excel in obedience and agility activities.

Activity: They are required to have daily walk and jog to gain more energy since they are a very energetic and alert dog. To avoid behavioral problems, they must be engaged in some strenuous activities as part of their exercise.

Health: Health issues includes: Eye disease, kneecaps, eye disease, deafness. Life span is about 15 years.

Grooming: Brushing is required for them to avoid tangles and broken coat. Minimal maintenance is needed for this breed as they are not a heavy shedder. Bathe only when necessary.

Russian Spaniel

AKA: Rosyjski Spaniel

Description: The Russian Spaniel is relatively small, but it has a strong and well-built body. This and its muscular legs help the dog with its work as a gun dog. Its coat is skintight, with hair of average length but with wavy fringes on the back of the legs and ears.

Dynamics: The Russian Spaniel is a loyal and devoted dog. It makes a great family as it is eager to please and can also stand in as a guard dog. It is also playful, and can get along well with children. Towards other dogs and pets, it is amiable and friendly. It has to be socialized well, however, to be able to get along really well with other pets and animals. In training the Russian Spaniel, the owner has to be firm, calm, and confident so as not to confuse the dog as it learns the house rules.

As a gun dog, the Russian Spaniel is a natural. It does not need a lot of training and instead instinctively starts on its work early in life. In its training, it should learn how to go about seeking out its game, bringing it out to the open, and retrieving it. The Russian Spaniel is great in hunting marsh, field, woodland, and aridland birds, as well as waterfowls, rabbits, and other small game.

Soon after that, more spaniels and other breeds were imported and the mixing of the breeds led to the development of many new dog breeds, one of which is the Russian Spaniel.

Activities: The Russian Spaniel possesses great stamina and is an energetic and playful dog. It should be walked everyday and be exercised and have play sessions.

Grooming: The Russian Spaniel does not need a lot of grooming. Its coat is not that long and is also waterproof. An occasional bath and regular brushing will be enough to keep the dog clean and its coat shiny.

Other Info: The Russian Spaniel has a life expectancy of 14 years. It is prone to overeating so it should have a strict diet to avoid bloating and other health problems. This breed will be okay living in an apartment as long as it is sufficiently exercised.

Roman Rottweiler

Description: The Roman Rottweiler is just like the standard Rottweiler, except that it is bigger and more mastiff-like in appearance and temperament. Its large and massive body brings out an impressive and noble air. Its head is broad and heavy, with some wrinkling, and a deep and well-defined stop. Its muzzle is full and also broad, and its jaws form a scissors bite. Its lips are well-developed and thick. Its eyes are deep set and well apart, and its pendant ears are carried forward and also set apart. It mouth and nose are dark in color, with the nose usually black but really just follows the base color of its coat.

The Roman Rottweiler’s coat is thick and can be long. The usually desired coat is a thick plush one. Its chest is deep with well sprung oval ribs. Its legs are muscular and powerful. Its tail can either be docked or left natural and curved over the back

Dynamics: The Roman Rottweiler has a calm and confident temperament. It is highly trainable, is athletic, courageous, and reliable. Of course, firm and consistent training and socialization is needed. Without a firm hand to guide it, it can become aggressive and uncontrollable. But it is usually a very loyal and devoted dog. It is an intelligent breed and and is a good worker and companion mixed into one. It can also get along well with children and other household pets as long as it has been socialized with them since puppyhood. It can get suspicious with strangers but it is amiable with family and friends.

Color: The coat color of the Roman Rottweiler can be black and tan, black and rust, black and dark, black and mahogany, red and tan, blue and tan or black. Other colors can be expected but not as desirable as those mentioned.

Country of Origin: The Roman Rottweiler came to Europe with the Roman legions, before that serving to herd and protect cattle that fed the Roman soldiers as they were crossing the Alps. The breed was settled in Germany, and this proved to be its end. The Germans wanted Rottweilers smaller in size and began breeding the now popular Rottweiler while the Roman Rottweiler’s line slowly shrunk.

Activities: The Roman Rottweiler should be walked everyday and sufficiently exercised. It likes to run in an open area and there will be no worry for the owner because the Roman Rottweiler will not wander away. Swimming and retrieving a ball is also a favorite past time.

Grooming: The coat of the Roman Rottweiler is easy to groom. Just brush regularly with a firm bristle brush and bathe only when necessary. Of course, if the Roman Rottweiler has a long coat then it needs more attention. But normally, brushing everyday is the most important.

Other Info: The Roman Rottweiler has a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years. It is susceptible to ACL damage and hip dysplasia. It is also prone to entropion, and it tends to snore and overeat. This breed will do okay living in an apartment as long as it is sufficiently exercised.

Pariah dog

AKA: INDog, Indian Pariah Dog, pye dog, pi dog or primitive dogpariah

Description: Pariah Dog is a pure breed, medium sized dog has short coat, that varies in color. Their ears are carried erect, muzzles are pointed with a wedged shaped head. Their tail is curved to their back.

Temperament: This kind of breed is also a friendly dog, loyal and able to learn things being trained to them since they are also smart kind of dog. They are also very adaptable and very devoted to its owner. They could also be trained to do some task as they have strong body built capable to do some task.

Activity: They too is required to have daily long walk or jog. It would also be best for them to run freely in a safe area to help them gain more energy and be healthy.

Health: No known health issues as long as they are properly taken care of and has proper diet.

Grooming: Little grooming is required for them since they only have short hair. Brush them regularly to remove dead hair. Bathe them only once every two weeks.

Group: subspecies of Canis lupus dingo

Color: light tan to dark reddish-brown. Black and tan

Height: 20-25 inches (51-64 cm) at the shoulder

Weight: about 28-45 pounds (12 – 20 kg)

Country Of Origin: India

Dynamics: This Pariah Dog refers to the feral dog of India. The word Pariah Dog is known as stray dogs those that living around the village looking for leftovers for their food and feral dogs in state that has not established human relationship at all.

Paperanian

AKA: Pappom, Pomillon, and the Papillon Pomeranian Hybridpaperanian

Description: The Paperanian is a cross between the Papillion and Pomeranian. They possess both breed’s appearance. Body is long and well built. They are small in size, has thick long coat all over their body except on their face which is regulary hairy but not too long. They have round dark eyes,and ears are carried high.

Temperament: They are a very playful, friendly dog. They are very energetic too like other pets. They use to seek attention with humans especially with their owner. They are very smart and obedient  dog therefore, they are easy to train so their owner wouldn’t find hard time teaching them some commends and tasks to do. They could also be considered as pet dog that is because they are a sweet, affectionate and loyal.

Activity: Like all other breeds, they are required to have daily long walk and jog. They are an outgoing breed. They always love to play games outdoors.

Health: Like the Pomeranian breed, they are also prone to some canine desease. Life span is around 12-16 years.

Grooming: Proper daily brushing would keep their coat smooth and soft and to prevent tangles. Clean their ears and eyes to keep away from infections. Bathe them only when necessary.

Dynamics: Paperanian breed was believed to be originated in United States back in 1950’s although there hasn’t been really any scientific proof about that. They are being loved by most families taking care of them as they are a friendly pet dog and a perfect human companion.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

AKA: Ridgeback, African Lion Dog, African Lion Hound

Description: The Rhodesian Ridegback is large and well-muscled dog. It has a flat broad head with a long and deep muzzle and a defined stop. Its nose can be black, brown, or liver, and its eyes are usually brown. Its ears are set high and dropping down and tapering. It has a deep chest, and strong straight front legs. The body ends with a long and tapering tail that curves upward a little. The Rhodesian Ridgeback’s most distinctive feature is its clearly defined symmetrical ridge of hair growing in the opposite direction running down the middle of the back.

Dynamics: The Rhodesian Ridgeback is known to be a ferocious and sophisticated hunter, but it is also a calm and gentle dog to its master or family. It has a good nature and is obedient and even-tempered. It can play roughly though and may not do well with small children. This is an intelligent and serious dog, straightforward and confident. It is brave and and can have an imposing presence. Towards strangers, this dog is reserved and quiet. But it can socialize well when trained.

When training the Rhodesian Ridgeback, it is important that the training be consistent and firm. This breed does not respond well to meek or passive owners, and might refuse to take us seriously. Without the proper training and socialization, the Rhodesian Ridgeback may develop destructive behavior and may become combatant with other dogs or pets. It might also become stubborn and may refuse to follow you. But once you have established that you are the leader and the dog is the follower, then the Rhodesian Ridgeback will prove that is is a loyal and protective companion.

Country of Origin: The Rhodesian Ridgeback came from Zimbabwe, South Africa, where it is known as a hunting dog and retriever. It also took care of children and guarded property. When hunting in packs, this breed is excellent in hunting lions, which earned them the name of African Lion Hound.

Activities: The Rhodesian Ridgeback has great stamina and energy. It needs a lot of exercise and a lot of opportunities to run around. It should be walked everyday and allowed to run free in a safe and secure area.

Grooming: Grooming the Rhodesian Ridgeback is easy because it has a short and smooth coat. Brush occasionally with a bristle brush. Dry shampoo only when necessary. It is an average shedder.

Other Info: The Rhodesian Ridgeback has a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years. It is a generally healthy breed but can also be prone to the usual ailments like hip dysplasia and dermoid sinus. The Rhodesian Ridgeback will be all right living in an apartment as long as it is getting enough exercise.

Redbone Coonhound

AKA: Reds

Description: The Redbone Coonhound is a robust but neat-looking dog. Its appearance is handsome and clean, yet also displays strength and agility. Its coat is shiny and sleek, short and lying flat. Its head is nicely modeled, with a medium stop between the brow and the nose. Its ears are long and hanging. Its paws are compact and cat-like, and its legs are strongly toned. Its tail is held upright.

Dynamics: The Redbone Coonhound looks serious but it has a sweet temperament and a happy disposition. It is an affectionate dog and it gets along very well with children. It also has a pleasant bark, and doesn’t really alarm people to fear. This dog loves people and values companionship, and it can adapt well to family life. It is eager to please and is a loyal and obedient dog. It can also get along well with other pets provided it has been socialized at an early age.

The Redbone Coonhound was bred as a hunter. It has the instinct of one and it is not difficult to train to follow a scent and give chase to a target. It is fast, alert, and adaptable to any types of weather and difficult terrain. It is flexible and agile, able to hunt ion steep or rocky grounds. The Redbone Coonhound is one of the best in coon hunting. It is also good in trailing and treeing bear, cougar, and bobcat. The Redbone Coon hound is also an excellent water dog.

Country of Origin: The Redbone Coonhound originated in the United States, specifically in the American South. Breeders in Tennessee and Georgia wanted a hound with more speed and a hotter sniffer. They first developed the Saddlebacks which possessed black saddle markings. The breeders developed the Redbone Coonhound by selective breedind, wherein the solid red dogs were distinguished.

Activities: The Redbone Coonhound has a lot of stamina as befitting of a hunting dog, and so it needs a lot of physical exercise. It needs to be walked everyday. It has a tendency to run off and hunt around so make sure that the area is securely fenced.

Grooming: The coat of the Redbone Coonhound only needs an occasional brushing. Bathe only when necessary. It is a light shedder.

Other Info: The Redbone Coonhound has a life expectancy of 11 to 12 years. It is a generally healthy breed but can be affected by hip dysplasia like all dogs. This breed will do okay living in an apartment as long as it is sufficiently exercised.

Rat Terrier

AKA: Feist, American Rat Terrier, Ratting Terrier, Decker Giant

Description: The Rat Terrier is a dog of a compact and well-muscled body, with a deep chest, strong shoulders, and well-boned legs. Its ears can be tipped or carried erect, and its tail can either be short or full length.

Dynamics: The Rat Terrier is a lively and alert dog. It is also an intelligent one. It is affectionate and loving and has a lot of energy everyday. This breed gets along well with children, and makes a very good companion for a big family. It can also get along with strangers although it is reserved at first. The Rat Terrier is the kind that is eager to please and is well-rounded. It is quick to learn and can always be seen to be excited to learn new things. The Rat Terrier is used for hunting aside from its terrier work. It also makes a good watchdog and farm dog. It is also a very good swimmer.

Country of Origin: The Rat Terrier originated in Great Britain, developed from Smooth Fox Terriers and Manchester Terriers in 1820. After the breed was introduced to America, they were crossed again with the Smooth Fox Terrier, the Beagle, and the Whippet. The breed was named by President Teddy Roosevelt.

Activities: The Rat Terrier has a lot of energy, and so it needs a good amount of exercise everyday. A long daily walk and play sessions is also needed. This breed especially likes games and outdoor romps.

Grooming: The coat of the Rat Terrier is short so grooming is easy. An occasional combing or brushing is enough. Bathe only when necessary.

Other Info: The Rat Terrier has a life expectancy of 15 to 18 years. It will be all right living in an apartment as long as it is sufficiently exercised. The Rat Terrier loves to dig around so there should at least be a small yard around where it can play and romp around.

Rafeiro do Alentejo

AKA: Alentejo Mastiff, Portuguese Mastiff, Mutt of Alentejo

Description: The Rafeiro do Alentejo is a large dog, with a bear-like broad head and strong robust body. Its eyes are dark and its ears are small to medium sized and folding downwards. Its neck is strong and has the regular dewlap, and its chest is broad and deep. Its legs are strong and upright, and its body ends with a long and curving tail. The Rafeiro do Alentejo’s coat is of medium length and thick and straight.

Dynamics: The Rafeiro do Alentejo is an excellent and confident guard dog. It is calm, courageous, but not aggressive. It is also an independent and intelligent dog, and very watchful. It gets suspicious of strangers, especially after dark, which makes it a very valuable guard for our homes. It is more for defense rather than for attacking, and gives out a low, deep bark.

The Rafeiro do Alentejo is affectionate with its family despite its reserved nature with strangers. It can get sensitive to reprimands and is also eager to please. Training and socializing this dog has to be done at puppyhood. It is also important that the training is consistent. This is a serious dog that does its job seriously. The Rafeiro do Alentejo is a very noble breed this way. This breed may be reserved with strangers but gets along nicely with children.

Country of Origin: The Rafeiro do Alentejo comes from Portugal, but it is often claimed that the breed was descended from huge dogs on the Tibetan highlands ages ago.

Activities: The Rafeiro do Alentejo is a serious dog made for real work. It does not usually exert energy on unnecessary tasks and instead focuses on getting serious with its real job of guarding herds and properties. This dog may not need any heavy exercise but it still needs to be walked everyday.

Grooming: The Rafeiro do Alentejo is a low-maintenance dog. Brushing its coat daily is enough. Bathe only when necessary.

Other Info: The Rafeiro do Alentejo has a life expectancy of 12 years. This dog is not made for life in an apartment. It likes having an open and large yard, and owners should take care to put a secure fence around because it is very suspicious of strangers.
